10. National Environment Awareness Campaign(NEAC):

A two day NEAC programme was successfully organized by VEAD on 20.02.2013 and 21.02.2013 at Sri.Renga govt. Aided middle school, in Parali village of Kulithalai block. The following are descriptive information of Awareness camp and Action Programme.

Awareness Programme: Under the awareness component, an awareness seminar on bio-diversity conservation was conducted for 5th to 8th students. Mr.Subramaniyan, Headmaster of the School, Mr.K.Subramaniyan, Chief of VEAD and Mr.M.K.Murugesan, Nursery Raiser, Kahampatty, delivered the special address on conservation of Bio-diversity. Mr.M.K.Murugesan clearly explained the need for planting of trees there by expanding forest coverage area for conservation of Bio-Diversity.

Action Programme: Under the Action programme, competition was conducted for the students on Bio-Diversities conservation through competition like Drawing, elocution, and Essay writing and prizes were given to the winners and runners of the competition.

Then, saplings of tree and Fruits were distributed to the children and out of 250 saplings, 50 were planted in school campus and streets of parali village by the AEO Mr.Subramaniyan. The species of trees distributed were - Neem, pungan and vagai and fruit saplings – pomegranate, Guava and Mango.

Altogether, 150 students from 5th to 8th standard and 12 teachers benefited from the NEAC programme


11. Skill training programme:

With the financial assistance from karur District Nehru Yuva Kendra, govt of India a 6 month training on “ Readymade garments making and Embroidery was conducted by VEAD at its Training centre, in Kulithalai for 50 rural poor women selected from villages of Kulithalai block. This 6 month training course included:-
- Sketching
- Drawing
- Cutting
- Stitching
- Over-lock
- Embroidery Design
- Practiced on tailoring machine.
Training was given on making of women’s wear and kids wear. After completion of training course, the trained women would be arranged to undergo NCVT training to get NCVT certificates.


12. Grass korai unit for 35 women under MSME Scheme:

With the financial assistance from ministry of small and medium Enterprises govt of India, 42 days Training was given to 35 Dalit and backward community woen on Grass korai Tearing and processing at the Training centre of VEAD. The profect beneficiaries were selected in Bangalapudur, V. Pudhur, Mettumarudur and Mailody villages of Kulithalai Block in Karur District. After completion of the 45 days training, the trained women were guided to avail bank loan of 20,000/- each from Indian Overseas Bank Kulithalai branch to purchase Korai tearing machines. Before the 45 days training, the women were daily wage labour. Presently each women has started her own Korai Tearing and processing unit individually as independent entrepreneurs.

The women, earn Rs.250- Ras.300- per days through their Korai Processing unit from the April,2012, the women are repaying their loan to the bank without fail. So far, each women has repaid Rs.12000/- out of the sanctioned loan of Rs. 20,000/- Indeed, the socio-economic status of the women has increased at home of well as in the society. The women are able to spend towards studies of their children and the most of their family expenses are managed by than easily without depending on others in their family. Now, the women are self-reliant with a sustainable income.
