Under the NABARD’S MEDP Scheme, 30 Dalit and most backword women were given 10 days training on Grass Korai Tearing and Processing by VEAD at its training centre in Kulithalai.
After the training, the trained women were supported to avail loan through IOB, Kulithalai Branch to purchase Grass Korai Tearing machine. Accordingly, each woman was sanctioned a loan of Rs.20,000/- (Rupees Twenty Thousand only) by Indian overseas Bank.
Soon after receiving the loan and purchasing the machine, the women successfully started Grass processing unit individually on their own. Before starting the own unit, each women made earning of Rs.100/-to Rs.150/- as daily wages.
They had to work hard without time limit. But, the own mechanized Korai Tearing units enable them make earning of Rs.250/- to Rs.300/- per day. The women are proud of that they have now become entrepreneurs with the valuable support of NABARD.
Further, the women are much satisfied that they could be able to provide their children, good education, nutritious food, clothing and medical care thereby it has prevented to become school dropout and child labor. The target women feel much happy and are proud that their social status has increased in their family as well as in the society.
